I just wanted to share something I've learned today to some of you : Credits to Jennessa :)
Kinda long but hopefully it's worth reading?
So it's about traumatic experiences and how God heals you.
So we've all been through a time in our lives that make us feel scared, depressed, and likely is difficult to forgive others, ourselves, and forget.
So, how can we/God heal ourselves from these traumatic experiences?
Healing Process:
1) Recognize God's Presence
2) Recreate The Scene
3) Relive In The Presence of Divine Love
So for 1):
You have to know that God was there with us all the time. Some people ask: "God where were you when this happened to me?" But really, he was there with us the whole time. Remember that he brings the good out of the bad.
2):
PETER'S HURT
God heals us by recreating the scene. A good example would be -- of course from the bible.
When Peter denies Jesus. Jesus identifies his betrayer, Peter and says to him that before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times. Yet, Peter says, No Lord, I will folow you to prison or to death.
Some points to remember if you read this passage
- Before the rooster crows - when reading this we know that this happened BEFORE dawn, because in the morning, that's when the rooster crows am I right?
One more thing to read would be WHEN Peter denies him. So Jesus gets arrested and whatnot and gets taken away by the guards and Peter follows him in the distance. So people asked him,
1- Surely this man was with him also - Peter replies, "I do not know the man"
2- (this was around a fire with coals and Peter was warming himself up) A woman says to him that Peter was with Jesus. and Peter denies that he does now know Jesus at all.
3- THIRD time, someone claims that Peter is one of Jesus' disciples and while Peter says, "I'm not one of his disciples" the rooster crowed and Jesus looked back at him and Peter remembers what Jesus said to him and he went out and cried bitterly
By this you can tell Peter was hurt.
Points to remember
- Fire, coals.
Okay, so how did God recreate the scene?
PETER'S HEALING
Well, after God was raised from the dead, he showed himself to the disciples for the third time and yet they do not know that it was him.
So, first they recognized that it was Jesus - his presence.
It was before morning and they were fishing and they could not catch anything. Jesus asked them to eat with him.
* So, it was at dawn - just like when Peter denied him. *
So they were near a fire with fish and bread to eat which Jesus had brought.
* Fire and coal - just like when Peter denied him, he was warming himself *
So Jesus asked him, Do you Love me?
Peter answered, Yes you know that I love you.
Second time, Jesus asked Do you love Me?
Peter answered, "Yes Lord You know that I love you."
and for the THIRD time, Peter, son of Jonah (I think that's what it says in the bible :S) Do you love me?
and Peter says, "Lord you know out of all things, I love you."
So this is God's 3 Fold Confession Love (I think that's what it's called. LOL)
BUT
Is you translate this to Roman (Or was it Greek? D:)
Jesus asked Peter DO YOU LOVE ME - But the love he was talking about translated as AGAPE which means unconditional/ unfailing love.
and Peter replied, You know that I love you- THe love he's talking about is called PHILEO which basically means, I LIKE YOU, or I love you God, But I can never love you the way you have loved me.
Same thing for the second.
But for the third, Peter finally understood. Because before he just focused on HIS love for Jesus, and not God's love.
- Like when he said: I will never betray you. I will follow you to death.
So PETER finally understood and so, for the third time Jesus asked Peter he put himself at Peter's level and asked him DO YOU PHILEO LOVE ME?
and peter said yes. I phileo love you.
and soooo that's how God recreated the scene. So now that Peter understands Jesus' love for him he can RELIVE IN THE PRESENCE OF DIVINE LOVE.
What do we have now that Peter did not have?
A: HOLY SPIRIT.
becaaaause, when God was raised from the dead to heaven, he sent the holy spirit down to dwell upon us.
And soo. remember that God is there with us at all times.
&& to Close off this note, Jennessa told us a story that reallllllllllllllllllly touched me LOL.
About a girl who wanted to commit suicide - family issues.
and she was cutting her wrists and she could have died but she didn't cos she didn't cut deep enough. So she went to hospital. One day she heard a message similiar to the one I just retold. and she asked herself "God, where were you during that time I was commiting suicide?"
God brought her to the same place in her mind back to when she was cutting her wrists.
He said to her, "I was there alll along. Can you see me?"
and she did see Him.
God said, "I was there with you, helping you cut your wrists, but not deep enough you could still live"
(My wording might be messed up. LOL it might sounds weird, but hopefully you get the idea.)
And so ONE MORE THING, my bad.
HOW DO WE GUARD OUR HEARTS FROM TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES?
1) Recognize his presence.
While you're going through something, look from God's eyes/perspective, not yours.
2) Knowing God forgave us & others.
Whoever was with you that maybe caused that moment (yourself or others), forgive them/yourself. Because God did, so you should do. If you can't, that's like saying your standards are higher than God's
3) Trust in God, he will take care of the rest.
